9 died, 36 injured as Guwahati-Bikaner Express derails

JNS: At least 9 people were killed and 36 injured after the Guwahati-Bikaner express train derailed near New Domohani railway station in West Bengal on Thursday evening.

Train No. 15633 Up Express left New Domohani station at around 5 PM and while the train was on run in block section between New Domohani and New Maynaguri stations, it derailed, said Indian Railways official.

The evacuations of passengers have been completed and a special train was left from the accident site at around 10 PM yesterday carrying 290 stranded passengers towards Guwahati.

The accident relief train and Medical van have reached to the accident site. Some of the trains are being diverted through alternative routes. High-level Railway Safety inquiry has been ordered into the accident.

Railways Minister, Ashwini Vaishnaw, has announced ex gratia assistance of five lakh rupees apiece to the next of kin of those deceased, one lakh rupees to those gravely injured, and 25 thousand rupees to those who were merely injured.
