Admin to declare city’s main roads as “Traffic Free Zone” for morning walk, jogging

Ashis Sinha I Bokaro: Amidst coronavirus pandemic, the residents of Bokaro and Chas will be able to do “morning walk and jogging” on the main routs of the cities. The district administration is at work; soon to declare the routs as “Traffic Free Zone” from 5 am to 9 am in the twin cities on every alternate Sunday.

All the residents will be able to do these activities in the pandemic (Coronavirus) period, considering the government-directed norms, SOP, use of face masks and social distancing. We will announce the program very soon, informed Rajesh Kumar Singh, Deputy Commissioner Bokaro.

Aiming to expedite the activities under Global Active City (GAC) programme a meeting was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner-cum-Chairman, Global Active City Committee Bokaro. Deputy Development Commissioner, Additional Municipal Commissioner, Chas, District Superintendent of Police, Civil Surgeon, District Planning Officer, District Transport Officer, District Education Deputy Superintendent, District Sports Officer and Indian Coubertin Committee Member (International Olympic Family) cum Global Active City Lead Officer Jaideep Sarkar were present in the meeting.

During the meeting, Jaideep presented a detailed outline of the GAC programme which was kicked-off in October 2019.

Despite the preparations, the “Indo-German Sports Workshop” of Germany’s world-renowned Leipzig University hindered as the government announced lockdown due to Coronavirus pandemic, said Jaideep.

“Meanwhile, there is one good thing that a preliminary survey of all the listed global active cities of the world, including Bokaro, now has been initiated by the famous survey agency “Liverpool John Moore University (LJMU)” of the United Kingdom, for this event,” he added.

From April to June 2020, Global Active Partner City Bokaro has been prominently ranked among the top forums of various national and international sports, including the newly formed Indian Olympic Education Committee (IOEC) of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) and the National Council of Sports Science and Physical There was also an international virtual program of Education (NCSPE) in which Kiren Rijiju Minister of Sports, Government of India, Dr. Narendra Dhruv Batra, President, Indian Olympic Association and Michael Gross, Project Director, Global Active City Program were present there, he said.

The ‘Global Active City’ program targeted to link health and social life programs. You may call it the international version of the ‘Fit India Movement’.  Our aim is to bring health awareness among mass and to inspire them to join some sports events, said Jaideep.

Recently, Bokaro Steel City got the tag of ‘Global Active City’ (GAC) standard. Now Bokaro becomes the first city in India and second in Asia to get this place. Karasiyaka in Turkey in Asia is the first city, got a prestigious standard.

The Global Active City programme is fully aligned with the agenda, guidelines and recommendations of UN, WHO, UNESCO all of which aim at improving the health and well being of people as part of sustainable development.

The International Olympic Committee additionally supports the Global Active programme. Bokaro Steel City is the first city in India to join the network.
