COVID-19 jabs: India sets record with 2.5 crore vaccinations in single day

Ashis Sinha I JNS: Over 2.5 crore doses of COVID-19 vaccine were administered by midnight, on 17 September, on the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 71st birthday, making the record single-day vaccination tally ever.

Large number of vaccination camps, public awareness campaigns including other initiatives in rural areas helped the country reach the landmark of administering more than two crore shots in a single day, said an official.

“Congratulations India! India has created history on PM Narendra Modi’s birthday. By administering more than 2.50 crore vaccine doses, a golden chapter has been written in the history of the country, and the world. This day belongs to the health workers,” tweeted Mansukh Mandaviya Union Health Minister.

Notably, around 35,662 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours on Friday. Active cases account for 1.02 per cent of total cases and the active caseload stands at 3 lakh 40 thousand 639.

The current recovery rate is 97.65%. In the previous 24 hours, over 33,700 recoveries have been reported, bringing the overall number of recoveries to almost three crore 26 lakh. In total, about 55 crore COVID tests have been performed in India to far.
