Dist. Admin. to prepare ‘ASD’ list to prevent bogus voting

dc-bokaroBokaro: To prevent bogus voting during Lok Sabha election, Bokaro district administration is on move to keep a close watch on each and every vote being cast in the election booths across the Bokaro district.

Deputy Commissioner and Electoral Officer, Bokaro Dr. Shailesh Kumar Chaurasia said the ‘ASD’ list (Absent, Shifted, Dead) of voters will be made available in each and every booth to prevent bogus voting.

“The list will be there in the discretion of the booth level officers (BLOs), who will be able to verify whether anyone is going to cast vote in the name of someone else whose name has either been deleted on account of death or has been shifted to some other booth,” said the DC.

The DC said the district administration is trying hard to ensure that no one is able to cast even a single bogus vote during the election. He said the ASD list will be made by the BLOs when they go about door to door distributing voter’s list.

“The ASD list is an internal arrangement for administrative purposes. It is integrated into the main electoral list,” said Chaurasia.

The DC clarified that the ASD list is not a separate one but it comprises voters who could not be reached at the time of voter verification, conducted by Election Commission officials.

“There are many voters whose photograph could not be collected and therefore, no photograph appears next to their name in the list. Polling officials are instructed to strictly verify identification proof of these voters, as it could be a case of duplication or impersonation, he said.

Anyhow, the ADS list would be completed before May 10, DC said.

Notably, two Lok Sabha constituencies, Giridih and Dhanbad, share the Assembly segments of Bokaro the district. The Election Commission has set May 12 as the date for the election in Giridih and Dhanbad Lok Sabha Constituencies.
