Earthquake of 6.4 magnitude hits Assam

JNS: An earthquake of magnitude 6.4 struck Assam on Wednesday morning; the epicentre of the earthquake was near Dhekiajuli town, 140 km (86 miles) north of Guwahati.

The Seismology National Center said that the quake struck 7.51 a.m. with its epicentre in the district of Sonitpur. Two strong tremors were also felt in several parts; at 7:58 am, a richter scale measuring 4.3 hit the epicentre 30km from Tezpur town, whereas the other, measuring 4.4 on a Richter scale, took place at 8.01 am about 39km from Tezpur.

According to the media reports, six tremors were felt following the first major earthquake.

Tremors were also felt in parts of the northeast as well as north Bengal. No casualties were reported. Following the impacted cracks on the road and wall of the houses were reported.
