IIT-ISM geared up to host the biggest Geo Mining Fest of India- Khanan’22

JNS: As IIT (ISM) gears up to host, the biggest Geo Mining Fest of India- Khanan’22, scheduled from 3-6 November, the students of the host institute waged a fierce battle of words and wisdom against each other, debating the political and internal problems of a hypothetical country at the Golden Jubilee Lecture Theatre (GJLT) of the institute.

The occasion was Operation Campaign, a pre-event of Khanan’22, organized by Mic.Drop-the official public speaking club of Student’s Gymkhana of IIT (ISM).

Altogether 10 students teams took part in the event competing against each other solving problems for the hypothetical coastline country situated in West Africa that faced a number of military coups before 2000 and again facing a crisis due to inflation, increase in international prices of commodities and withdrawal of forces by one of it’s trusted friendly nation.

The participants who were required to run an election campaign for the presidential elections prepared the manifesto suggesting the panacea for all the ills afflicting the beleaguered West African nation.

The participants were adjudged by a panel of judges comprising of the President of MicDrop Moaz Akhtar and Pranav Tripathi on the basis of the inventiveness and Pertinence of their solutions, besides the confidence and cogency of the election speech.

The ability to tackle questions of the audience & judges and the presentation skill of the contestants were also scanned during the contest.

Finally, Team Camouflage Gallant represented by a student, Chaitanya which suggested a comprehensive solution through sweeping economic reforms, energy sector reforms etc secured the 1st position.

The second position was bagged by Team Sovereign Reformation Coalition comprising of Deveshi Singh and Ishita Paliwal, who mooted the idea for self-sustainability of the economy besides tackling the problem of terrorism threat being posed by a neighboring country.

The team Bengal Regime of Udayan Chatterjee, Pritam Chakraborty and Sayantan Sengupta who included the idea of delocalization of power, comprehensive financial & national security and also suggested new market as well as military set up were adjudged third during the contest.

Meanwhile, a comedy show titled, The Punchline being organized by the Comedy Club of the institute is also scheduled at Golden Jubilee Lecture Theatre (GJLT) from 7 p.m. as another pre-event of Khanan’22.

It is worthwhile to mention here that Khanan,22 is being organized by IIT (ISM) in association with Technology Innovation Hub-TEXMiN, Society of Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration (SME-USA India Chapter) and CIL Innovation and Incubation Centre.

The four-day fest which will be attended by over 100 industry representatives and over 500 Technophiles will witness a host of technical events, panel discussions, lectures by eminent personalities of the industry and numerous competitions etc.
