ISM hosts workshop to educate rural students about science & technology

JNS: IIT (ISM) team organizes unique workshop in remote rural school of Dhanbad to apprise students about the relevance of science and technology in today’s world through the use of puppetry Intended at motivating young school students about the relevance of Sciences and technology through the use of creative communication techniques in today’s world a team of Department of Management Studies of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad organized a unique workshop today at Upgraded High School Raghunathpur and Jharkhand Awasiya Balika Vidyalaya at Purvi Tundi.

The project, titled “Motivate School Students & Teachers Concerning the Relevance of Science & Technology through Innovative Communication Techniques,” launched last year under the leadership of Dr Rashmi Singh, Assistant Professor of Department of Management Studies is aimed to engage students in a fun and interactive way to make learning about science and technology more interesting and relatable.

To make this possible, the workshop held today featured puppet shows conducted by experts from Kolkata as “Bidisha Puppet theatre”, a well-known name in the puppet show business, which performed in this workshop to apprise rural students about the significance of Science & Technology.

“This workshop was a unique opportunity for students and teachers to learn about the importance of science and technology in a fun and engaging way” said Prof Singh and added that the use of puppet show grabbed the attention of students and kept them entertained while they learned.

“Puppetry is well known to develop and enhance imagination skills, creativity and observation skills that is why this form was chosen to impart information about relevance of Mathematics and Science to the students” further said Prof Singh.

“Importance of puppetry is known in the educational field as it helps to develop imagination skills, creativity and observation skills among the school students” explained Professor Singh. “A number of motor skills can also improve among the students while playing with the puppets” elaborated Prof Singh who is also the principal investigator of the project and added that it also helps to invent stories, develop characters, create settings, and extending their imagination further A similar workshop will also be held on 11th February at Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya & UPG MS Jatakhuti at Tundi.
