Jharkhand BJP MLA convicted  by court, gets 18 months imprisonments

Bokaro: BJP MLA of Baghmar con Dhullu Mahato along with his five aids was convicted and sentenced to 18 months imprisonments by district court Dhanbad in a six-year-old case on Wednesday. While one accused Basant Sharma was acquitted.

The sub-divisional magistrate court of Shikha Agrawal convicted Mahato and his five supports include Rajesh Gupta, Chunchun Gupta, Rameshwar and Ganga, sentenced them for 18 months jail. Mahato was accused of setting Rajesh Gupta, held on charges of extortion, free from police custody in 2013.

According to the police, Rajesh Gupta was arrested on the orders of the court from Baghmara on 12 May 2013. When police were taking Gupta to the police station, Dhullu Mahato (then JVM-P legislator) along with his 40-50 men stopped the police official and succeeded in freeing Gupta.

In the scuffle, the uniform of one policeman was torn by supporters of the MLA.

Later, then OC of Barora police station Ram Narayan Chaudhary filed a case (120/13) against them in Katras police station.

However, on appeal Mahato got bail from the court. He was also been jailed for eleven months in this case.

“I will challenge against this decision in the High Court. Technically, I will be able to contest elections despite being convicted,” said MLA.

The JVM-P legislator has been hitting headlines for the wrong reasons.
