Mental Health and Wellbeing program organised at DPS Bokaro

Bokaro : A special awareness program on mental health and stress management was organised for the students and teachers at Delhi Public School (DPS) Bokaro on Thursday under the National Mental Health Program.

Dr. Prashant Kumar Mishra, Consultant Psychiatrist of Bokaro Sadar Hospital cum PO (Program Officer) of the National Mental Health Program, along with his team members, threw light on various aspects of the related subject in detail. His team included Sushma Kumari, Clinical Psychologist of Sadar Hospital and Chhotelal Das, Counselor cum Social Worker of District ‘No Tobacco Center’.

In the program’s first session, Dr.Prashant explained the tricks of a successful life and freedom from stress to the students of classes- IX and X. He said that to avoid stress and depression, we must be prepared in advance to deal with that situation.

Addressing the students Dr. Prashant said, to be mentally healthy, it is necessary to be alert, introspect and be self-aware. He described the importance of a systematic lifestyle, a proper study plan, time management and concentration toward the goal. Focusing on various factors that cause stress, he advised the children to be positive and happy. He added that life is precious and there can be nothing more important than life itself. Dr. Mishra focused on the effects of mood swings on the human body that leads to hormonal changes. He shared that regular exercise is beneficial for stress-free life. He emphasized on the judicious use of social media.

Sushma Kumari elaborated on the stages of fear, stress and depression along with their emotional and psychological causes.

Chhotelal Das made the children aware of the ill effects of tobacco consumption and cited that both Sadar Hospital and BGH are equipped with ‘Nicotine replacement therapy’. There was a small questionnaire session wherein students were awarded for answering the questions correctly.

In the latter half of the Day special session was organised for the teachers wherein Dr. Prashant elaborated the need to reach out to the students who are fighting against Depression, loneliness and are under stress.

Principal, DPS Bokaro, A.S. Gangwar lauded the efforts put in by Dr. Prashant and his team in organizing such an awareness program. He said that the aim of this program was to contribute to protect the present generation from the devastating health consequences due to tobacco consumption and stress.
