SII reduces price of Covishield from Rs 400 to Rs 300 for states

JNS: Serum Institute of India (SII) has slashed the price of Covishield vaccine by Rs 100 for the state government. While, for the private hospitals it remains at Rs 600 per dose. SII, is producing University of Oxford and AstraZeneca’s Covid-19 vaccine

In a tweet, CEO SII, Adar Poonawala said that, as a philanthropic gesture, serum institute will provide COVISHIELD to states in Rs 300 per dose with immediate effect. This will save thousands of crores of state funds going forward. He said, This will enable more vaccinations and save countless lives.

Earlier the SII had priced Covishield at Rs 400 per dose for state government hospitals and Rs 600 for private hospitals.

In its statement, SII had said that only a limited number of doses of Covishield vaccine will be sold to private hospitals at a cost of Rs 600 per dose.

Meanwhile, Bharat Biotech has fixed the price of its Covid-19 vaccine– Covaxin, at Rs 600 per dose for state governments and at Rs 1,200 per dose for private hospitals.

Both vaccines are available to the central government at a rate of ₹150 per dose.
