Tashnuva becomes Bangladesh’s first Transgender News Anchor

Ashis Sinha I JNS: The first transgender was appointed as a news anchor in Bangladesh.  To mark the 50 years of Bangladesh’s independence, Boishkahi TV appointed Tashnuva Anan Shishir, a transgender as a news anchor, will begin her new innings as a news presenter from 8 March on the occasion of International Women’s Day.

Public Relations Officer of Boishkahi TV channel Dulal Khan told the media that we have appointed two transgender women in our channel’s news and drama team on the eve of Independence Golden Jubilee and Women’s Day, reported Daily Bangladesh.

Khan added, “This is the first time the people of the country will see a transgender woman presenting the news in an official news bulletin, which has never happened before in 50 years of independence.”

On the occasion of International Women’s Day on 8 March, Tasnuva will present her first news bulletin on Shishir Boishkahi TV. Through this Boishkahi TV is going to set an unprecedented example in the country, Khan said, adding “Let us tell you that the example of Tashanuva, a dancer, model, and a voice artist, becoming the first time transgender news anchor will inspire thousands of transgender women in Bangladesh.”

According to the media reports, Tashnuva made her acting debut in 2007 with the theater troupe Natua. She has been a part of the theater troupe Botola for over two years, during which she has appeared in a significant role in several productions. She is to appear in two feature films this year.
