Woman dies after ambulance carrying him runs out of oxygen in Jharkhand

Bokaro: A 70-year-old woman died on his way to Muskan Hospital Chas from Regional Hospital Kargali in Bokaro district of Jharkhand after the ambulance carrying him allegedly ran out of oxygen. The incident occurred on Wednesday night.

The deceased’s family also alleged negligence on the part of the hospital staff. Despite the directive given by the doctor to carry two oxygen cylinders with the patients, medical and nursing staff carried him with one half-filled cylinder, said a Sukhdeo Rawani, son of the deceased.

After a complication of Chest pain and short-breathing, doctors’ referred Laxmi Devi to Muskan Hospital, Chas, Bokaro Steel City. Earlier she was admitted at Regional Hospital Kargali, said Rawani.

The hospital staff puts a half-filled oxygen cylinder in the ambulance and told us that it (oxygen) is enough to rush to Bokaro, said Rawani. When we were on the way to the hospital, suddenly near Balidih Toll Plaza oxygen cylinder ran out empty and my mother’s condition becomes critical.

In a hurry, we rushed to the hospital, where doctors declared my mother brought dead, said Binod Rawani another son of the deceased. Doctors at the hospital told me, the life of the patient could be saved if oxygen did not stop, said Rawani.

Moreover, a helper in the ambulance also admitted that the oxygen cylinder went out to empty when they were on their way.

Meanwhile, Dr RK Paswan in-charge of Kargali Hospital said, we do not have a flow meter at the hospital for the measurement of oxygen level in a cylinder. Though we have set up an inquiry on the incident, culprits would be penalised, said Dr Paswan.
