Workshop on ‘Stochastic Modelling Technique’ concluded at ISM

JNS: The week-long “High End Workshop on Stochastic Modelling Technique” organized by Department of Management Studies and Industrial Engineering, IIT(ISM), Dhanbad concluded this evening with the valedictory session during which Professor Dhiraj Kumar, Deputy Director of IIT (ISM) who was present chief guest praised the organizers for organizing such programmes which provides a platform for knowledge sharing.

Professor Rajni Singh, Dean (Media & Branding) who was also present during the function said “My experience while delivering the Key Note address, titled, Research Communication & Ethical Values was amazing as session turned out to be quite interactive one.

Professor Rashmi Singh, Programme Coordinator, during her address gave details of deliberations that took place during the five working days of workshop from February 20-24 and especially the Key Note address delivered by different renowned speakers.

Professor Raghu Nandan Sengupta of IIT Kanpur, Professor Sandeep Mandal and Professor Niladri Das of Department of Management Studies and Industrial Engineering of IIT (ISM) were also present during the occasion.

Notably this was the second high end workshop (karyashala) organized by the Department after the 1st one organized in the area of data analytics in 2021 sponsored by SERB, DST, GOI.

The workshop is a step towards bringing national and international experts from academic institutes, research organizations, scientific institutes, and industry in the field of stochastic modeling technique as key resource persons for sharing their expertise with Ph.D. and PG students.

It aims to expose the participants to the latest theoretical developments of applied stochastic models and also learn practical applications in diverse areas of engineering, science, technology, business and industrial applications. This will include telecommunications, computer networking, wireless communication systems, fault tolerant electronic and mechanical equipment, power plants, transportation systems, chemical sciences, cryptography, ecology, big data analytics and many more.

Out of 142 applications 26 applicants were selected from variousinstitutes like IIT Madras, IIT, Delhi, IIT, Goa, IIT, Bhubaneswar, NIT, Calicut, NIT, Jalandhar, NIT, Durgapur, NIT, Rourkela, IIEST, Shibpur, Jadavpur University, Central University of Bilaspur, Central University of Odisha, Delhi Technological University, AMU, Aligarh, IIIT, Allahabad, IMT, Ghaziabad, etc.

The participants were Ph.D. and PG students in Mathematics and Statistics, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Material Science, Nanotechnology, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Data Analytics, Operations Management, Behavioral Finance, etc.

The workshop was inaugurated on 20th February, 2023 by Professor. Dipti Prasad Mukherjee, Deputy Director, ISI, Kolkata who was the Chief Guest in the presence of Professor. Karmeshu, Distinguished Professoressor, Shiv Nadar and North Cap University and Former Dean of School of Computational and Integrative Sciences at JNU who was the Guest of Honour, Professor. Dheeraj Kumar, Deputy Director, IIT(ISM), Dhanbad, Professor Sagar Pal, Dean (R&D), IIT(ISM), Dhanbad, Professor J K Pattanayak, Professoressor at Department of Management Studies and Industrial Engineering, Professor Sandeep Mondal, Professoressor, Operations Management at Department of Management Studies and Industrial Engineering and Professor Rashmi Singh, Programme Coordinator.

Professor Rashmi Singh who welcomed the experts and participants and enlightened the audience with wide application of stochastic modelling technique in highly uncertain, complex and dynamic environment spanning healthcare, logistics and supply chain, electronics and telecommunication, power systems, alternative energy, big data analytics, etc. and also for solving the real time societal problems in the country. She also presented the statistics of all the 142 applications and expressed satisfaction that participants were selected from across the country.
