Gaya: On the second day of their high-voltage ‘Voter Rights Yatra’, Congress MP and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi along with RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav marched from Aurangabad to Gaya, drawing massive crowds and charged slogans against the BJP.
Rahul, who on Sunday accused the Election Commission and BJP of “stealing votes,” repeated the charge while addressing gatherings at Rafiganj, Guraru, and other stops en route. The Election Commission, however, dismissed his allegations as “baseless” and demanded he provide proof or apologize within seven days.
Enthusiasm swept across Gaya as Congress workers lined the roads with banners, posters, and garlands. Welcoming events were organized at Konch, Panchanpur, Delha, Rasalpur, and Wazirganj, culminating in a grand rally at Khalis Park, Gandhi Maidan. Rahul is scheduled to halt in Rasalpur tonight before the Yatra moves towards Nawada tomorrow.
Local Congress and RJD leaders claimed the Yatra is a battle to restore “snatched voter rights” and accused the ruling party of deliberately deleting lakhs of names from electoral rolls. Despite traveling mostly by vehicle, Rahul and Tejashwi were seen interacting directly with villagers, projecting the march as a people’s movement.
On Sunday in Sasaram, Rahul had triggered a storm by alleging a “massive electoral scam”, insisting that constitutional rights of ordinary voters were under grave threat.
