NUSRL Hosts National Moot Court Competition on Consumer Protection Laws

Ranchi: The National University of Study and Research in Law (NUSRL), Ranchi, kicked off its National Moot Court Competition on Consumer Protection Law today.

The event is organized by NUSRL’s Department of Consumer Research and Policy in collaboration with the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution, Government of India. The competition has attracted participation from prestigious law schools and judicial experts from across the country.

The inaugural session of the competition featured Professor (Dr.) Ranbir Singh, Pro-Chancellor of IILM Gurugram and former Vice Chancellor of NLU Delhi and NALSAR Hyderabad, as the chief guest. Professor Singh emphasized the role of moot court competitions in boosting students’ confidence and highlighted the numerous benefits they provide in honing legal skills.

Basant Kumar Goswami, Acting Chairperson of the State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, Jharkhand, also addressed the participants. He discussed how technology is opening up new opportunities for law students and stressed the importance of legal education in the evolution of consumer forums.

Professor (Dr.) Ashok R. Patil, Vice Chancellor of NUSRL, acknowledged the university’s continuous efforts to provide better learning opportunities for students, particularly through joint programs that deepen students’ understanding of Consumer Protection Laws. He also noted the crucial role of the Ministry of Consumer Affairs in supporting these educational initiatives.

Soni Bhola offered a detailed overview of the competition and its significance, while Dr. Shrimanshu Das, Assistant Professor at NUSRL, delivered the vote of thanks.

This competition serves as a valuable platform for in-depth discussions on Consumer Protection Laws, with a distinguished panel of legal experts guiding the participants through rigorous debates.

The event will conclude on November 24, 2024, with the Hon’ble Governor of Jharkhand, Santosh Kumar Gangwar, gracing the final session. The Governor will also distribute certificates to the participating students. The final session will feature key speakers including Anupam Mishra, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Government of India, and Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad, Judge of the Jharkhand High Court.
