Bokaro Launches 2-Lakh Signature Campaign for BSL Expansion and BGH Superspeciality Status

Bokaro: A massive public campaign has been launched in Bokaro to press for the early expansion of the Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL) and the upgradation of Bokaro General Hospital (BGH) into a superspeciality facility.

The campaign, led by BJP leader Kumar Amit, aims to collect 2 lakh signatures to be submitted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a show of public support.

Addressing a press conference at the Circuit House, Kumar Amit said the long-pending 2.5 million ton expansion plan of BSL, announced under the National Steel Policy by Union Steel Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, holds the key to Bokaro’s future.

The plan includes Rs 20,000 crore investment, creation of 2,500 direct and 10,000 indirect jobs, and an increase in production capacity from 5 to 7.5 million tons.

He expressed concern over the delay in implementation, stating that while the foundation was expected to be laid in May, SAIL management has not yet initiated the work, causing public uncertainty.

The campaign will include signature drives, seminars, street meetings, and social media outreach. Additionally, 10,000 postcards will be sent to the Prime Minister by citizens urging immediate action. Kumar Amit also highlighted that prior letters to the PM, President, and Steel Minister have received a positive response, but a stronger public movement is needed to push for action.

Support for the campaign is being mobilized across communities, with backing from trade unions, business bodies, displaced groups, and social organizations. Leaders from the Bokaro Chamber of Commerce, INTUC, BMS, and various local associations participated in a coordination meeting held before the press conference, pledging their full support.

Kumar Amit appealed to all political, apolitical, and social groups to join hands and make the campaign a success for Bokaro’s development.
