Patna: In the wake of rising water levels in the Ganga, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday directed officials to remain on high alert and take all necessary steps to handle any potential emergency, especially in low-lying areas along the riverbanks.
The Chief Minister conducted an extensive on-ground inspection of the Ganga’s rising levels, starting from Kangan Ghat in Patna City to Nasriganj Ghat in Danapur. En route, he stopped at key ghats including LCT Ghat, NIT Ghat, Digha Ghat, and JP Ganga Path, assessing the situation firsthand and seeking detailed updates from officials.
He emphasized constant monitoring of vulnerable spots such as Nasriganj Ghat and Gandhi Ghat, where the water level has significantly risen and the current has intensified. Kumar instructed officials to be prepared as per the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and ensure timely assistance to affected residents.
“Keep a close eye on the situation and ensure people in danger are helped promptly,” Nitish Kumar told officials while reviewing the flood preparedness measures.
Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister also visited the park under development on JP Ganga Path, a part of the Patna Smart City Project. Spread over 500 meters between LCT Ghat and Kurji Ghat, the park is envisioned as a scenic family destination and a green lung space for the city.
Nitish Kumar stressed that since the park is situated along the riverbank, it must be built with a strong focus on public safety and environmental resilience. “The park will enhance the beauty of the riverfront. Once complete, it will offer residents a peaceful, green space to enjoy with their families,” he remarked, urging officials to expedite the work.
