Patna: With several low-lying areas in Patna still submerged due to overflow from the Mahatmayan and Dhowa rivers, the district administration has stepped up relief efforts to support flood-hit families. A community kitchen has been set up in Mushari Gopal Tola under Daniyawan block, serving hot meals to over 60 people every morning and evening.
Additional District Magistrate (Disaster Management) DP Sahi and Patna City SDO Satyam Sahai, accompanied by senior officials, carried out an extensive survey of flood-affected zones including Daniyawan and Fatuha blocks on Monday. Though water levels in both rivers have started receding, floodwaters still linger across agricultural lands and around 20 to 30 houses in Mushari Gopal Tola, Singriawan Panchayat.
Following directives from the Patna District Magistrate, relief measures were immediately intensified. Alongside the community kitchen, 50 polythene sheets were distributed to affected families for temporary shelter.
The administrative team also inspected Shahjahanpur Panchayat’s Maqsadpur, Masnadpur, and Navichak villages. A leakage in the flood embankment at Masnadpur was identified and is now being plugged with sandbags and soil by the Flood Control Division, Punpun. Rising water was also diverted away from Navichak village — a low-lying basin — using similar flood control measures.
In Harinagar village of Horalbigha Panchayat, where waterlogging hindered movement, the SDO initiated immediate boat services. Over 150 dry ration packets were distributed to affected families, and food packet distribution preparations are underway.
In Chhoti Kawai (Shahjahanpur Panchayat), where around 20 to 25 Mahadalit families are surrounded by floodwaters, dry ration kits have already been distributed, and cooked food services will begin shortly.
Meanwhile, pressure from the Dhowa River has mounted against the Jamindari Dam in Shripatpur Panchayat of Fatuha Block. Anti-erosion works are being carried out on a war footing. Officials confirmed that the situation is currently under control.
Two days earlier, rural connectivity was briefly disrupted due to erosion on a village road in Mominpur. The passage has since been restored using bricks, gravel, sand, and sandbags.
The Patna administration continues to monitor flood-prone areas and is committed to ensuring that timely relief reaches every affected family.
