Beijing: China on Wednesday rolled out a massive display of military strength at Tiananmen Square, marking its annual ‘Victory Day’ — the commemoration of Japan’s surrender in World War II.
President Xi Jinping, flanked by Russian leader Vladimir Putin and North Korea’s Kim Jong Un, presided over the grand parade that drew nearly 50,000 spectators. More than 10,000 soldiers marched with precision, backed by advanced tanks, drones, and missile systems, underscoring Beijing’s ambition to accelerate the modernization of its armed forces.
In a fiery address, Xi declared China’s rise “unstoppable” and issued a veiled warning to Washington: “The Chinese nation is a great nation that is never intimidated by bullies.” He hailed the country’s history of resilience, recalling how the people united to “defeat enemies in struggles between light and darkness, progress and reaction.”
The rare sight of Xi, Putin, and Kim together was widely seen as a show of strategic camaraderie aimed at the US amid ongoing geopolitical and trade tensions.
Meanwhile, across the Pacific, Donald Trump launched a scathing attack on the trio. Taking to Truth Social, the former US President accused China, Russia, and North Korea of “conspiring against America.”
Trump reminded Beijing of America’s role in World War II, writing: “The big question is whether Xi will acknowledge the massive blood and support the United States gave to China for its freedom. Many Americans died in China’s quest for victory and glory.”
Ending with his trademark flourish, Trump added: “Please give my warmest regards to Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un — as you conspire against the United States of America.”
