Gaya, Bihar: A profound display of faith and tradition unfolded today along the sacred banks of the Falgu River in Gaya, as over 50,000 devotees converged to perform Pind Daan and Tarpan on the second day of Pitru Paksha 2025.
The atmosphere reverberated with the rhythmic chants of mantras, the fragrance of incense, and the tender prayers of pilgrims deeply engrossed in ancestral homage.
Amidst the emotional setting, sons offered pind for their mothers, daughters bid tearful farewells to their parents, and a young boy’s poignant tarpan for his late mother left onlookers moved. The ceremony, deeply rooted in Hindu tradition, symbolizes the sacred connection between the living and the departed, believed to grant peace and salvation to ancestral souls.
Despite long queues and sweltering heat, devotees displayed unwavering dedication, taking holy dips in the river and offering sesame, water, and pind on specially constructed vedis. Priests guided the rituals with solemn precision, enhancing the spiritual atmosphere.

Gaya, often called the land of Moksha, holds unparalleled significance during Pitru Paksha, attracting pilgrims from across India and abroad. Local authorities reported that this year’s turnout surpassed expectations, reflecting the enduring reverence for ancient rites.
