Ujjwala families to touch 10.58 crore after expansion

New Delhi:  In a Navratri gift to women, the government has approved 25 lakh additional LPG connections under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) this financial year.

Extending his greetings on the first day of the festival, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the move will bring “new joy” to women beneficiaries while furthering the mission of women’s empowerment.

Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri told reporters that the government will spend over ₹2,000 on each new connection, ensuring that clean cooking fuel reaches more households. With this expansion, the total number of Ujjwala beneficiaries will touch 10.58 crore families.

Puri underlined that the Prime Minister has consistently worked to make clean fuel accessible to women across the country, reducing health hazards and improving quality of life.

The announcement adds fresh momentum to the flagship scheme, which has already transformed kitchens across India by replacing smoky chulhas with LPG connections.
