Vedanta’s Nand Ghar Rolls Out Landmark Nutrition Drive Across 7 States

New Delhi: In a major push towards eradicating child malnutrition, Vedanta’s flagship social impact initiative Nand Ghar, in collaboration with the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) Foundation for Nutrition, has announced the distribution of 1,00,000 units of ‘Shishu Sanjeevani’, a fortified nutrition supplement for children aged 3 to 6 years, across seven states during POSHAN Maah 2025.

This large-scale initiative marks a significant step under the national theme “Poshan se Pragati” (Progress through Nutrition), aligning with India’s Mission Poshan 2.0 and commemorating 50 years of the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS).

With a vast network of over 9,400 modernised Anganwadis across 15 states, Nand Ghar has been instrumental in transforming rural communities through interventions in nutrition, education, healthcare, and women’s empowerment. The current nutrition campaign will reach children in Rajasthan, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Daman & Diu, and Uttar Pradesh.

Developed by NDDB, Shishu Sanjeevani is a ready-to-eat, nutrient-rich halwa designed to meet one-sixth of a child’s daily nutritional requirements. Each 40g serving delivers about 200 kcal and is fortified with proteins, vitamins, and minerals in line with ICMR–National Institute of Nutrition guidelines. Made from Bengal gram, ghee, milk solids, soy, groundnut, and sesame, the supplement aims to support healthy growth and development among children in their formative years.

Priya Agarwal Hebbar, Chairperson, Hindustan Zinc Limited and Non-Executive Director, Vedanta Limited, said:

“True nation-building begins with the well-being of our children. Through Nand Ghar, we are ensuring that every child has access to proper nutrition and a fair start in life. Our partnership with NDDB to distribute Shishu Sanjeevani reinforces our belief that collaboration can drive meaningful, lasting impact.”

Shashi Arora, CEO, Nand Ghar, added:

“As ICDS celebrates 50 years, Nand Ghar takes pride in contributing to India’s journey of nurturing its youngest citizens. Through fortified food support, technology-driven monitoring, and community awareness, we are building a foundation for a well-nourished generation that will lead India’s progress towards Viksit Bharat 2047.”

Dr. Meenesh Shah, Chairman & Managing Director, NDDB, emphasized:

“Shishu Sanjeevani is the result of NDDB’s scientific expertise in food and nutrition. Our partnership with Vedanta’s Nand Ghar ensures that this vital supplement reaches children at the grassroots, strengthening India’s collective fight against malnutrition.”

Ravish Sharma, Deputy CEO, ESL Steel Limited, Vedanta Group, noted:

“At ESL Steel, we’re proud to back Nand Ghar’s efforts, especially in Jharkhand, where thousands of children will directly benefit. A nourished child is the cornerstone of a strong, self-reliant community.”

Nand Ghar’s comprehensive nutrition model integrates fortified food support, community awareness, and technology-enabled monitoring to deliver measurable impact. Currently reaching over 3.6 lakh children daily, the initiative blends traditional nutrition wisdom with modern science — ensuring that India’s future generation grows up healthy, empowered, and ready to build a stronger nation.
