New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday extended warm Diwali greetings to the nation with a strong call to action — celebrate the festival of lights by choosing Swadeshi. Urging citizens to “buy Indian” and honour the craftsmanship of local artisans, PM Modi’s festive message blended joy with a push for economic self-reliance.

In his Diwali post on X (formerly Twitter), the Prime Minister wrote, “Greetings on the occasion of Diwali. May this festival of lights illuminate our lives with harmony, happiness and prosperity. May the spirit of positivity prevail all around us.”

Adding a patriotic touch to his greetings, Modi appealed to Indians to support homegrown products:
“Let’s mark this festive season by celebrating the hard work, creativity and innovation of 140 crore Indians. Let’s buy Indian products and say—‘Garv Se Kaho Yeh Swadeshi Hai!’”

He also encouraged people to share their Swadeshi purchases online, saying this simple act could inspire others to do the same.

The Prime Minister’s message aligns with MyGovIndia’s campaign, “Celebrate Diwali and Empower Swadeshi,” which urges citizens to take a pledge to buy Indian-made goods this festive season. The campaign highlights the importance of supporting local industries, artisans, and craftspeople who form the backbone of India’s cultural and economic identity.

By reviving the ethos of the historic Swadeshi movement, the initiative reinforces the government’s broader vision of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ (Self-Reliant India). It aims to strengthen domestic manufacturing, create jobs, and reduce dependency on imported goods.

Echoing similar sentiments, President Droupadi Murmu also wished citizens on Diwali, writing, “On the auspicious occasion of Diwali, I extend my heartfelt greetings and best wishes to all Indians, both in India and across the world.”

As diyas light up homes across the nation, Modi’s Swadeshi message seeks to ignite another flame — one of national pride, economic empowerment, and collective self-reliance.
