Bokaro: On the auspicious occa  sion of Makar Sankranti, Ajay Nath Jha, the Deputy Commissioner, chose compassion over ceremony, celebrating the festival among the differently-abled, orphaned children and elderly residents of social care institutions.

The Deputy Commissioner visited Manav Seva Ashram, Sector-05, home to differently-abled children, and Baba Baidyanath Old Age Home, Solgadih, where he spent time sharing festive moments with senior citizens. The visits turned the traditional harvest festival into a heartfelt celebration of service and human connection.

Marking the occasion, he distributed tilkut (sesame sweets), dahi-chura, and jaggery, bringing traditional warmth and simplicity to the ashram premises. The atmosphere was filled with emotion as the festival was observed not with grandeur, but with empathy and inclusion.

Engaging in personal conversations, the Deputy Commissioner patiently listened to the life stories, concerns, and feelings of the children and elderly residents. He said Makar Sankranti symbolises not only seasonal change, but also social responsibility, compassion, and service to humanity.

His wife, Pratima Jha, also accompanied him and interacted affectionately with the residents, reinforcing a sense of family and belonging.

The initiative sent a strong message of humane governance, strengthening trust and emotional bonds between the administration and society—turning a festival into a living example of inclusive leadership.
