Bokaro: In a major push to strengthen inclusive and quality education in Jharkhand, a national-level residential school on the model of Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS), Bhubaneswar, will be established in Bokaro Steel City. The initiative is being implemented under the direction of Chief Minister Hemant Soren, officials said.
An important review meeting was held on Monday at the Bokaro Residence Auditorium under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Ajay Nath Jha. The meeting was attended by BSL Director In-Charge Priya Ranjan, KISS–KIIT Advisor Punit Pradhan, Deputy Development Commissioner Shatabdi Majumdar and senior district and BSL officials.
Addressing the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner said the Chief Minister envisions Jharkhand’s development through quality education, safe residential facilities and skill-based training for tribal, rural and underprivileged children, stressing that education is a tool for life-building, not just literacy.
BSL Director In-Charge Priya Ranjan assured full cooperation and said Bokaro Steel Limited would identify 25–30 acres of land in the Bokaro Steel City area for the project to ensure adequate academic and residential infrastructure.
To replicate the KISS model effectively, a joint team of district administration and BSL officials will undertake a study tour to KISS Bhubaneswar in the first week of February, after which a detailed action plan will be finalised.
The proposed fully residential school will feature modern academic buildings with smart classrooms, science and computer laboratories, a digital learning centre, library, research facilities and secure hostels. Officials said the institution is expected to become a landmark in Jharkhand’s education sector, offering holistic development opportunities—academics, sports and life skills—particularly for tribal and underprivileged students.
Several senior officials, including representatives from district administration, education, health and BSL, were present during the meeting.
