New Delhi: Amazon is preparing for another major round of corporate job cuts, with up to 14,000 employees reportedly facing layoffs as early as next week, as the tech giant accelerates efforts to slim down its global workforce.

The move is part of a broader plan to eliminate nearly 30,000 corporate roles, following a previous wave of layoffs in October last year that already saw around 14,000 jobs axed.

Sources say the upcoming cuts could begin as early as next Tuesday and are expected to impact key verticals, including Amazon Web Services (AWS), retail operations, Prime Video, and Human Resources.

Last year, the company had pointed to the rapid rise of Artificial Intelligence as a driving force behind its restructuring, calling AI “the most transformative shift since the internet.”

However, CEO Andy Jassy later said the layoffs were also tied to internal “culture” changes, aimed at reducing layers of management and speeding up decision-making across teams.

Jassy has maintained that the job cuts are not a sign of financial distress, but rather a strategic push to build a leaner, more agile organisation in an increasingly competitive tech landscape.

If implemented, the new round will mark one of Amazon’s largest corporate shake-ups yet, underscoring how even the world’s biggest tech firms are reshaping for the AI era.
