New Delhi: The Government of India on Sunday announced the Padma Awards 2026, honouring 131 distinguished personalities from across the country and abroad for their exceptional contributions in arts, public service, sports, science, social work and business.

Among the most notable names, legendary actor Dharmendra Singh Deol and former Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan have been awarded the Padma Vibhushan posthumously, while iconic Malayalam superstar Mammootty and playback queen Alka Yagnik have been conferred the Padma Bhushan.

Actors R Madhavan and Prosenjit Chatterjee have received the Padma Shri, while Indian cricket captains Rohit Sharma and Harmanpreet Kaur were also honoured with the same award for their historic World Cup-winning leadership.

131 Awardees, A Nation’s Salute

According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Padma Awards — India’s highest civilian honours — are given in three categories:

  • Padma Vibhushan – for exceptional and distinguished service

  • Padma Bhushan – for distinguished service of a high order

  • Padma Shri – for distinguished service in any field

For 2026, the President of India has approved:

  • 5 Padma Vibhushan

  • 13 Padma Bhushan

  • 113 Padma Shri

The list includes 19 women, 6 foreign/NRI/OCI awardees, 16 posthumous honours, and two duo awards counted as single honours.

Icons Across Generations

Dharmendra, whose career spanned more than six decades, remains one of the most beloved figures in Indian cinema.
V S Achuthanandan is remembered as a towering political figure in Kerala, known for his firm governance and lifelong public service.
Mammootty, honoured with the Padma Bhushan, is celebrated as one of India’s finest actors with an unparalleled body of work across languages.

Formal Ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan

The Padma Awards will be formally conferred by the President of India at ceremonial functions at Rashtrapati Bhavan, traditionally held during March–April each year.
