New Delhi: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the Union Budget 2026–27 in the Lok Sabha on February 1, marking a major fiscal milestone for the country. After the Budget speech in the Lower House, the full set of documents will be tabled in the Rajya Sabha.
This will be Sitharaman’s ninth consecutive Budget since taking charge in 2019, and the third Budget of the Narendra Modi government’s third term.
The Budget papers will be made available to the public on the official website and mobile app of the Finance Ministry immediately after the speech.
Students to witness Budget live, interact with FM
In a unique outreach initiative, the Finance Minister will interact with around 30 college students from across the country after the presentation. The students will also get the rare opportunity to watch the live Budget speech from the Lok Sabha Gallery.
According to the Finance Ministry, the students represent a wide cross-section of disciplines, including commerce, economics, medical education, and vocational studies, and hail from different States. The initiative is aimed at giving young citizens a first-hand view of one of Parliament’s most significant annual proceedings.
The students will also visit the Ministry of Finance at Kartavya Bhawan-1, where they will interact with senior officials to understand policy-making, governance processes, and the role of institutions in nation-building.
Later in the evening, Sitharaman will hold an open interaction with the students, discussing the Budget’s priorities, its vision for India, and its impact on youth. The students will share their ideas, aspirations, and perspectives on the nation’s future.

Extensive consultations shape Budget 2026–27
Ahead of the Budget, Sitharaman held pre-Budget consultations with a wide range of stakeholders, including economists, trade unions, representatives from the education and health sectors, MSMEs, industry, trade and services, and financial and capital market experts.
Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan also conducted extensive consultations on agriculture and rural development and submitted a consolidated report of suggestions to the Finance Minister.
In addition, inputs were sought from citizens—especially the youth—through various platforms, many of which are expected to find reflection in the Union Budget 2026–27.
The upcoming Budget is expected to outline the government’s economic roadmap at a time when growth, employment, and social inclusion remain at the center of national focus.
