News Desk: Veteran leader and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday filed his nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha from Bihar, marking a significant moment in the state’s evolving political landscape.
Kumar submitted his nomination at the Bihar Assembly complex in Patna amid the presence of senior leaders of the ruling alliance. His move to contest the Rajya Sabha election has intensified speculation about a leadership transition in the state, where he has remained the central political figure for nearly two decades.
Five Candidates File Nominations
Along with Nitish Kumar, four other leaders from the ruling alliance also filed their nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha seats from Bihar. These include Nitin Nabin of the Bharatiya Janata Party, senior leader Ramnath Thakur, Upendra Kushwaha, and Shivesh Kumar.
Their nominations reflect the seat-sharing arrangement among parties of the National Democratic Alliance in Bihar ahead of the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections.

Possible Political Transition in Bihar
Nitish Kumar, who heads the Janata Dal (United), has been the longest-serving Chief Minister of Bihar, having taken oath a record ten times. His decision to move to the Rajya Sabha is being viewed by political observers as a potential step toward a broader political transition in the state.
The development has triggered fresh discussions about the future leadership of Bihar within the ruling alliance. With the BJP emerging as a dominant partner in the coalition, the possibility of a new Chief Minister from the party has become a subject of intense political debate.
Veteran Leader Moves Toward National Role
At 75, Nitish Kumar remains one of the most influential leaders in Bihar politics. Over the years, he has led governments supported by different alliances while maintaining a loyal voter base across social groups.
His entry into the Rajya Sabha is widely interpreted as a shift toward a larger national role after decades of state-level leadership.
With five candidates from the ruling alliance filing nominations, the upcoming Rajya Sabha election from Bihar is expected to further reshape the state’s political equation in the months ahead.
