Mumbai: India booked their place in the final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 after defeating England in a thrilling second semi-final at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday.
Batting first, India produced a powerful batting display to post a massive 253 for 7 in 20 overs, one of the highest totals ever recorded in a T20 World Cup knockout match. The innings was anchored by Sanju Samson, who delivered a sensational knock of 89 runs off just 42 balls, smashing boundaries and sixes to put England’s bowlers under immense pressure.
India’s aggressive batting lineup maintained a high scoring rate throughout the innings, giving England a daunting target. Samson’s explosive innings formed the backbone of the total, while other Indian batters provided crucial contributions to push the score past the 250 mark.
Chasing the steep target, England mounted a spirited fightback. Their innings was powered by a stunning century from Jacob Bethell, who smashed 105 runs from 48 balls and kept England in the contest with aggressive stroke play. Despite his heroic effort, England fell just short of the target as India’s bowlers held their nerve in the final overs.
India eventually secured a seven-run victory, sealing a dramatic win and advancing to the tournament final.
With this victory, India now moves into the T20 World Cup 2026 final, where they will face New Zealand, who defeated South Africa in the first semi-final. The much-anticipated title clash is scheduled to take place on March 8.
