Bokaro: Bokaro Steel City witnessed an electrifying Sunday evening as its first-ever ‘Food Street’ transformed a busy stretch into a vibrant hub of flavours, festivity and heavy footfall—amid a striking mix of celebration and chaos.
Organised by Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL), the much-anticipated event— inaugurated by Director-in-Charge Priya Ranjan— turned a one-kilometre stretch from Gandhi Chowk to Bokaro Mall into a lively food corridor. However, hosting the event on a major arterial road severely disrupted traffic movement, leading to widespread congestion.
As thousands of residents thronged the venue, the stretch saw bumper-to-bumper traffic, with long queues of vehicles stranded for hours. The impact spilled over into Sector 3 and City Centre areas, where commuters grappled with snarls, diversions and significant delays during peak evening hours.
Despite the chaos outside, the Food Street itself was a grand spectacle. Nearly 70 stalls showcased a rich spread of cuisines from across India, reflecting the multicultural character of Bokaro—often called “Mini India”—where people from different states live and work together. Traditional Jharkhandi delicacies emerged as star attractions, while the Ladies’ Committee stall continued to pull crowds, maintaining its reputation as a crowd favourite.
From teenagers to people in their late eighties, visitors across age groups flocked to the venue, relishing a wide range of delicious dishes. Families, youngsters and the elderly soaked in the festive vibe as the air buzzed with aromas of sizzling food and lively conversations. The event turned into a social melting pot, with people bonding over food and festivities late into the evening.
However, many commuters voiced frustration over poor traffic planning and inadequate diversion arrangements. Residents pointed out that hosting such a large-scale event on a central road without proper traffic management caused avoidable inconvenience.
The inauguration was attended by several dignitaries, including CISF DIG Rajiv Mishra, Ladies’ Committee President Shubham Ranjan, and senior BSL officials such as P.K. Rath, Rajashree Banerjee, Vikas Manwati, Anish Sengupta, C.R. Mishra, Dr. B.B. Karunamay, Anup Kumar Dutt and S.K. Bhardwaj, among others.
While the Food Street gifted Bokaro a memorable festive evening, it also raised serious concerns over event planning and traffic management in the city.
