New Delhi: In a significant development, Droupadi Murmu has nominated senior parliamentarian Harivansh Narayan Singh to the Rajya Sabha, ensuring his continued presence in the Upper House.

The move comes just a day after Harivansh’s previous term as a Rajya Sabha member came to an end. His nomination fills the vacancy created following the retirement of former Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi from the nominated category.

An official notification confirming the appointment was issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, formalising the President’s decision.

Harivansh, who has served as the Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, is known for his parliamentary experience and background in journalism and public service. His renomination is seen as a move to maintain continuity and experience in the functioning of the Upper House.

Under constitutional provisions, the President nominates members to the Rajya Sabha from fields such as literature, science, art, and social service, recognising distinguished contributions to public life.
