News Desk: A massive Ukrainian drone offensive targeting Moscow and surrounding regions overnight triggered explosions, fires and panic across the Russian capital, leaving at least four people dead — including an Indian worker — and several others injured.
Confirming the casualty, the Indian Embassy in Russia said one Indian national lost his life while three others were injured in the attack. Embassy officials visited the site and later met the injured workers in hospital.
“The Embassy condoles the loss of life and is working with the company management and local authorities to provide necessary assistance to the workers,” the mission said in an official statement.
Russian authorities described the assault as one of the largest drone attacks on Moscow since the war began in 2022. Russia’s Defence Ministry claimed its air defence systems intercepted more than 550 Ukrainian drones across multiple regions between Saturday night and Sunday morning, while dozens more were reportedly shot down later in the day.
Despite the interceptions, several drones struck areas around Moscow, damaging residential buildings, industrial facilities and infrastructure. Emergency services rushed to multiple impact sites as residents reported loud blasts and smoke rising across the outskirts of the capital.

The attack also disrupted air traffic, with temporary restrictions imposed at major Moscow airports after debris from intercepted drones was reported near flight zones.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy defended the strikes, saying Ukraine’s long-range operations were a response to Russia’s continuing attacks on Ukrainian cities and communities.
“Our responses to Russia’s prolongation of the war and its attacks on our cities and communities are entirely justified,” Zelenskyy said in a post on X.

He added that Ukrainian drones successfully reached targets more than 500 kilometres inside Russian territory and praised Ukraine’s security and defence forces for carrying out what he called “precision” operations.

The latest escalation comes amid intensifying cross-border drone warfare between Russia and Ukraine, with both sides increasingly targeting strategic sites far from the frontlines.
Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, and the conflict has since evolved into one of the deadliest and most technologically driven wars in recent history.
