New Delhi: In a major push to strengthen India’s energy infrastructure, Adani Power is preparing a massive expansion drive aimed at increasing its power generation capacity to 45 gigawatts (GW) over the next five years. The ambitious plan, backed by an investment exceeding ₹2 lakh crore, underscores the Adani Group’s long-term commitment to meeting the country’s growing energy needs.

Massive Investment to Fuel Infrastructure Growth

The proposed capital expenditure forms a crucial part of the Adani Group’s broader infrastructure strategy, which spans power generation, transportation, logistics, and digital services. The investment is expected to enhance the group’s footprint across key sectors that are central to India’s economic development.

Riding India’s Rising Power Demand

The expansion comes as India’s electricity consumption continues to surge, driven by rapid industrial growth, urbanisation, and increasing demand from households and businesses. By substantially boosting generation capacity, Adani Power aims to play a larger role in ensuring reliable energy supply and supporting the country’s long-term economic ambitions.

Bhutan Partnership to Boost Clean Energy Portfolio

As part of its renewable energy roadmap, the Adani Group has entered into a partnership with Bhutan’s Druk Green Power Corporation to jointly develop hydropower projects with a total capacity of 5,000 megawatts (MW).

The collaboration is expected to deepen regional energy cooperation while contributing to sustainable and clean power generation in South Asia.

Adani Eyes Nuclear Energy Sector

In another significant move, the conglomerate is preparing to enter the nuclear power segment through Adani Atomic Energy. The initiative marks the group’s diversification into a strategic sector that is increasingly being viewed as essential for India’s future energy security.

Targeting 10 GW Nuclear Capacity by 2035

Speaking about the development, Group Chairman Gautam Adani described the nuclear venture as “another confident step towards securing India’s long-term energy future.”

According to reports, land for the proposed nuclear power project has already been identified. The group is targeting a nuclear power generation capacity of 10 GW by 2035, positioning itself as a major player in India’s evolving clean energy landscape.
