New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Polish counterpart, Donald Tusk, held bilateral talks in New Delhi on October 22, 2026, with a focus on strengthening strategic ties, expanding trade and investment, and enhancing cooperation in defence, space technology and nuclear energy.

Tusk’s visit, scheduled from October 21 to 23, comes as India and Poland seek to build on the strategic partnership established in August 2024. The discussions aim to give fresh momentum to bilateral engagement across economic, technological and security-related sectors.

Defence cooperation, space technology and nuclear energy are among the key areas of interest, reflecting the two countries’ efforts to broaden their partnership beyond traditional trade and diplomatic engagement. Cooperation in advanced technologies, renewable energy, mining and other industrial sectors also offers opportunities for closer collaboration.

Business and Investment Take Centre Stage

Economic cooperation is a major focus of the Polish prime minister’s visit. An India-Poland Business Forum in New Delhi on October 22 is bringing together business representatives to explore investment opportunities, strengthen commercial ties and encourage partnerships between companies from the two countries.

Tusk is accompanied by Poland’s Minister of Finance and Economy, Andrzej Domański, along with a business delegation. The visit also includes engagements in Bengaluru on October 23, with a focus on sectors such as information technology, space and innovation.

India’s expanding economy and technology ecosystem offer significant opportunities for Polish businesses, while Poland provides Indian companies with a gateway to Central European markets. Stronger industrial partnerships and increased business-to-business engagement could help unlock new areas of growth.

Building on the 2024 Strategic Partnership

India and Poland elevated their bilateral relationship to a Strategic Partnership during Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Poland in August 2024. The visit also marked 70 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The two sides adopted a Joint Action Plan for 2024–2028 to guide cooperation in areas including trade and investment, defence, science and technology, energy, infrastructure, education and cultural exchanges.

The current talks provide an opportunity to advance that framework and identify practical ways to strengthen cooperation in emerging technologies, industrial development and other strategic sectors.

Ukraine, Middle East and India-EU Relations

The discussions also take place against the backdrop of major international developments, including the war in Ukraine and the conflict in the Middle East. Both countries have an interest in maintaining diplomatic engagement on regional and global challenges.

India-Poland relations also have broader significance for India’s engagement with the European Union. Closer cooperation between New Delhi and Warsaw could support stronger economic connections, expanded technological collaboration and deeper strategic engagement between India and Europe.

A New Chapter in India-Poland Ties

Tusk’s visit underscores the growing importance both countries attach to their bilateral relationship. For India, Poland represents an important partner in Central Europe, offering opportunities in trade, technology, defence and investment. For Poland, India is a major market with considerable potential for industrial cooperation and business expansion.

The success of the visit will ultimately depend on translating diplomatic discussions into concrete outcomes, including new business partnerships, investment commitments and sustained cooperation in strategic sectors.

With trade, technology and security increasingly shaping international partnerships, the Modi-Tusk talks could provide fresh momentum to India-Poland relations and strengthen the broader engagement between India and Europe.
