Strict Parenting makes Children Indecisive

childStrict parenting or too much affection affects children much more than expected said Swami Vimlanand Saraswati. “Now the present generation is living in very fragile and confusing situation as parents are unable to play their role correctly,” said he while addressing a special session organised for the parents at Chinmaya Vidalaya, Bokaro on Sunday.

“Too much severity makes the child indecisive. As we want to make them more disciplined they seldom attain the confidence to pursue anything on their own. On this move, they constantly keep seeking parental approval but their anxious and indecisive nature makes them less confident in the world. Let your child learn from their experiences and failures, let him or her take a path adjacent to yours and watch them going ahead where you have never been,” added Swami.

It is important to set rules and guidelines that help children developing and growing without being so strict. “Your child feels like he can not take a step without doing something wrong. As your child should love you more than he fears your rules. To be a good parent, you need to know how to make your children feel valued and loved, while teaching them the difference between right and wrong. At the end of the day, the most important thing is to create a nurturing environment where your children feel like they can thrive and develop into confident, independent, and caring adults,” he said.

A successful parent teaches their children how to live a successful life instead of making him or teaching him how to be a wealth-producing machine.

Let the children come forward and let him face the problems. Swamiji said, it is very crucial to show and teach your children the values that you hold. Discuss with your children about the importance of being honest, of being fair, of being respectful, of caring for others, and of being patient and understanding.

“Teach your children about your spiritual beliefs (whatever may be) in a way they can understand and by doing these things, you are laying an important foundation that will guide your children throughout their lives,” Swamiji added.
