Future Prospects for Robotic Transplants at AIIMS
New Delhi: AIIMS New Delhi has marked a medical milestone by performing India’s first Robot-Assisted Kidney Transplant Surgery, becoming the first government hospital in the country to offer this advanced procedure.
Dr. Virinder Kumar Bansal, Renal Transplant Surgeon at AIIMS, told Akashvani News that the inaugural surgery was conducted on September 3, and five patients have benefited from the facility so far.

Highlighting the advantages over conventional surgery, Dr. Bansal said patients recover faster and can be discharged within a week. He described the procedure as safe, efficient, and minimally invasive, noting that AIIMS provides this cutting-edge surgery at a fraction of the cost charged by private hospitals.
