Air India, IndiGo Cancel Flights to Border Cities Amid Heightened Security Concerns

New Delhi: Indian carriers Air India and IndiGo have cancelled flights to and from several cities near the India-Pakistan border, including Jammu, Srinagar, Amritsar, and Chandigarh, citing passenger safety amid increased regional tension.

The precautionary move follows recent developments along the border, despite a ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan reached on Saturday.

Air India, owned by the Tata Group, announced the suspension of services to eight airports — Jammu, Leh, Jodhpur, Amritsar, Bhuj, Jamnagar, Chandigarh, and Rajkot — for Tuesday, May 13. IndiGo also confirmed cancellations on several routes, including flights to Jammu, Srinagar, Leh, Amritsar, Chandigarh, and Rajkot.

“In view of the latest developments and keeping your safety in mind, flights to and from these cities are cancelled for Tuesday,” Air India stated on social media, adding that it is closely monitoring the situation.

IndiGo echoed the sentiment, stating that the decision was made with “safety as our utmost priority.”

Meanwhile, operations at Delhi Airport remain unaffected, though authorities have advised passengers to expect delays due to heightened security protocols. In a public advisory, the airport urged travelers to check flight statuses with their airlines, arrive early, follow baggage rules, and avoid circulating unverified information online.

The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security has mandated enhanced screening measures, and officials have asked for full cooperation from passengers for smoother processing.
