Bihar Assembly Chaos: Speaker Adjourns House Amid Sloganeering and Disorder

Patna: The Bihar Assembly was adjourned till lunch break on Tuesday after loud protests by Opposition members disrupted proceedings just 21 minutes into the session.

As the House convened, Opposition MLAs, dressed in black, raised slogans and waved placards demanding the withdrawal of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process and condemning the worsening law and order situation in the state. Despite Speaker Nand Kishore Yadav’s repeated appeals for calm, the ruckus escalated.

The Speaker began the Question Hour amid the chaos, urging members to uphold decorum and allow public issues to be addressed. However, Opposition members stormed the Well of the House, ignoring requests and continuing their protest.

Some agitating MLAs reportedly attempted to overturn chairs and desks, prompting the Speaker to warn of strict disciplinary action, saying such behavior damages the dignity of the House. “Instead of showing strength here, it would be better if you serve your constituencies,” Yadav told the protesting legislators.

With no sign of order being restored, the Speaker adjourned the House till the lunch break, accusing the Opposition of intentionally stalling the proceedings.
