New Delhi: In a move aimed at boosting transparency and efficiency, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will introduce on-screen marking (OSM) for evaluating Class 12 answer sheets starting with the 2026 board examinations.
Confirming the decision, Examination Controller Sanyam Bhardwaj said the digital evaluation system is part of the board’s ongoing efforts to streamline assessment processes. However, answer book evaluation for Class 10 will continue in the traditional physical mode for now.

Alongside the shift in evaluation, CBSE has announced the introduction of a second board examination for Class 10 from this year. The additional exam will remain optional and is intended for students wishing to improve their performance.
To familiarise stakeholders with the revised guidelines for conducting examinations and implementing on-screen marking, the board will host a live webcast scheduled for 11 AM tomorrow.
