News Desk: A moderate earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale jolted Dhaka and several parts of Bangladesh on Friday morning, sending residents rushing out of homes and offices as buildings swayed briefly.

According to Meteorologist Tariful Newaz Kabir of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, the quake struck at 10:10 AM with its epicentre in Madhabdi, located in Narsingdi district. The tremor, recorded at a depth of 10 km, was strong enough to shake high-rise structures across the capital.

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department said the earthquake measured 5.7 in magnitude and occurred at 10:08:26 IST on November 21, 2025. It was centred at latitude 23.77°N and longitude 90.51°E, at a depth of 10 km in the Bangladesh region.

No immediate reports of casualties or major damage have emerged, but authorities are monitoring the situation. Residents in Dhaka described the tremor as short but strong enough to cause panic, especially in multi-storey buildings.

The quake’s effects were felt far beyond Bangladesh. In Kolkata, Assam, Malda, Nadia, North Dinajpur, South Dinajpur, and several other districts of eastern India, many residents reported noticeable shaking.
