New Delhi: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has launched ECINET, a unified digital platform that brings together over 40 election-related mobile and web applications into a single system, aiming to deliver real-time, verified election data while tackling the growing challenge of misinformation.

The platform is designed to serve voters, political parties, media and election officials through one secure interface, replacing the need to access multiple apps and portals for voter services, polling updates and grievance redressal.

One platform, all election services

ECINET integrates popular ECI tools such as Voter Helpline, cVIGIL, Voter Turnout, Suvidha 2.0, ESMS, Saksham and KYC apps under a single digital roof.

The Election Commission said the system will provide faster access to official election data, including real-time voter turnout trends, candidate details and constituency-wise statistics.

Tool against fake news

Calling ECINET a “shield against misinformation”, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar said a single official source of election data will help citizens verify facts quickly and reduce the spread of false claims during polls.

The Commission also said ECINET could be offered as a model for election bodies in other democracies.

Tested in by-polls

Several ECINET modules were piloted during by-elections in Kerala, Gujarat, Punjab and West Bengal, where polling officials uploaded turnout data directly from booths, reducing reporting delays and errors.

The system also speeds up preparation of statutory “Index Cards” — official constituency data records — bringing down publication time to less than 72 hours.

Secure and legally compliant

ECINET operates within existing election laws and rules, with access restricted to authorised election officials. The ECI said the platform has undergone multiple security audits and technical trials before national rollout.
