Bengaluru: A celebration turned into a nightmare as a stampede outside Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy Stadium claimed 11 lives and injured over 50 people. Thousands had gathered to celebrate Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) maiden IPL title, overwhelming security arrangements and leading to chaos.
The tragic incident occurred during a government-organized event following RCB’s victory parade from the airport to Vidhana Soudha. The team was scheduled to appear at the stadium, but the event now remains uncertain.
Deputy CM DK Shivakumar expressed grief, urging fans to value safety over celebration. The BJP blamed the Congress-led state government for poor planning and crowd mismanagement.
RCB’s title win — their first since IPL’s inception — was an emotional moment for fans and star player Virat Kohli, but celebrations quickly gave way to sorrow. An investigation is underway, and questions are being raised over the lack of proper crowd control.
