Ranchi : Former international hockey player Vimal Lakra, a prominent sports figure from Jharkhand, is in critical condition following a serious head injury. The 45-year-old was initially treated at Simdega Sadar Hospital, but due to the severity of his condition, he was referred to Curesta Hospital in Ranchi, where he is currently in the ICU under intensive care.
Sources indicate that Lakra, who was visiting his ancestral village in Simdega, suddenly collapsed in a field and was found unconscious. Upon examination, doctors identified a severe head trauma and internal bleeding, with blood clots forming in his brain.
A team of specialist doctors is closely monitoring his condition and providing all necessary medical interventions.
Vimal Lakra, a former midfielder for the Indian national hockey team, was part of the silver-medal-winning squad at the 2002 Asian Games. Hockey runs deep in his family — his younger brother Birendra Lakra and sister Asunta Lakra have also represented India in international field hockey.
The hockey community and sports enthusiasts across the country are praying for his speedy recovery.
