Govt to Expand Jan Aushadhi Network to 25,000 Kendras by March 2027: Minister Anupriya Patel

New Delhi : The Central Government has set an ambitious target of establishing 25,000 Jan Aushadhi Kendras across the country by March 2027, Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilisers, Anupriya Patel informed the Rajya Sabha on Monday.

In a written reply, the minister stated that as of June 30, 2025, a total of 16,912 Jan Aushadhi Kendras have been operational under the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP). These stores are aimed at providing affordable, high-quality generic medicines to the masses.

Highlighting the impact of the scheme, Patel said citizens have collectively saved an estimated ₹38,000 crore over the last 11 years by choosing generics over costlier branded drugs. The scheme currently offers over 2,000 medicines and 315 surgical products, covering a broad spectrum of therapeutic categories including cardiac care, diabetes, cancer, gastrointestinal, allergy, and fungal infections, along with essential nutraceuticals.

Patel emphasized that the Jan Aushadhi initiative is not only easing the financial burden of healthcare but also ensuring accessibility of essential medicines across urban and rural India.
