GST Rate Revision Comes Into Effect Monday
JNS: The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution has issued an advisory in the wake of revised GST rates, effective from Monday.
Optional Price Re-Stickering Allowed
No Compulsion for Manufacturers
Manufacturers, packers, and importers may voluntarily affix additional revised price stickers on unsold stock manufactured before September 22. However, the ministry clarified that this is optional and the original MRP must remain visible.
Old Packaging Can Be Used Till 2026
The advisory also permits the use of packaging material printed prior to the GST revision until March 2026 or until existing stock is exhausted. Companies may update the MRP using stamping, stickering, or online printing at any visible spot on the package.
Industry Asked to Spread Awareness
Multiple Channels for Consumer Communication
The government has urged companies to proactively inform dealers, retailers, and consumers about the revised GST rates. It has encouraged the use of electronic, print, and social media platforms to ensure awareness.
Balancing Business and Consumer Interests
According to the ministry, the move is designed to ease compliance for businesses while ensuring consumers benefit from GST reductions without confusion.
