JNS: India has firmly established itself in the global space arena, securing nine major world records in space exploration, with plans to add 8 to 10 more records in the near future, said ISRO Chairman V. Narayanan.
Speaking at an event in New Delhi, Narayanan highlighted key achievements, including the landmark Mars Orbiter Mission (Mangalyaan) in 2014, making India the first nation to reach Mars on its first attempt. In 2017, the PSLV-C37 mission set a record by deploying 104 satellites in a single launch—a world first.

Narayanan also spotlighted India’s advances in cryogenic technology, such as setting records for the fastest development of the LVM3 rocket’s cryogenic stage—completed in just 28 months, significantly faster than global peers.
India’s Chandrayaan-2 mission in 2019 launched the world’s most advanced lunar orbiter camera, and Chandrayaan-3, in 2023, marked another historic achievement by making India the first country to land near the Moon’s South Pole.
With over 4,000 rockets launched and 133 satellites deployed, ISRO’s cost-effective strategies have fueled national security, economic growth, and spurred space entrepreneurship.
Looking ahead, Narayanan revealed ISRO’s bold target: achieving 8 to 10 new space world records and aiming for a manned lunar landing by 2040, reinforcing India’s vision to emerge as a global space power.
