Ranchi: In a significant move aimed at boosting education, tourism, and employment, the Jharkhand Cabinet on Wednesday approved 18 key proposals during a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Hemant Soren.
Among the major highlights, the Native Magur (Clarias Magur) has been declared as Jharkhand’s State Fish, following a recommendation from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) — marking a step towards promoting indigenous biodiversity.
🔹 New Constable Recruitment Rules
The Cabinet approved changes in the police constable recruitment process. Under the revised rules, male candidates must now complete a 1,600-metre run within six minutes, while female candidates must finish in ten minutes. The earlier physical test required men to run 8 km and women 4 km, a change expected to modernize and standardize the process.
🔹 Legislative and Administrative Approvals
The Cabinet also greenlit the Winter Session of the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly, to be held from December 5 to 11, 2025.
Further, the services of contractual non-teaching staff under the Polytechnic Education Strengthening Project will be regularized, while Dr. Maithilisharan of Patliputra Medical College, Dhanbad, received approval for the cancellation of his dismissal order.
🔹 Education & Infrastructure Push
To enhance science and math learning, the government approved the establishment of STEM labs in all CM Schools of Excellence across the state’s 24 districts, with each lab costing around ₹20 lakh.
The Cabinet also sanctioned ₹37.27 crore for a bridge construction project under the Ministry of Road Transport and ₹29.76 crore for the improvement of the Simdega–Rengari–Kerasai–Odisha border road.
🔹 Tourism Boost
To attract tourists and promote religious tourism, a 4-star hotel — “Hotel Vaidyanath Vihar” — will be built in Deoghar through PPP mode at an estimated cost of ₹113 crore.

These wide-ranging decisions, officials said, are expected to strengthen the state’s education system, streamline recruitment, promote investment and tourism, and improve infrastructure — giving a strong push to Jharkhand’s development roadmap.
