Ramgarh: Jharkhand’s tallest tribal leader and former Chief Minister Shibu Soren, fondly known as Dishom Guru, was laid to rest with full state honours in his native village Nemra in Ramgarh district today.
Thousands of mourners gathered to pay their final respects as the revolutionary leader merged into the five elements, leaving behind a legacy etched in the heart of Jharkhand’s history.
A sea of people—cutting across caste, class, and creed—joined the tearful farewell, turning Nemra into a river of emotions. Chief Minister Hemant Soren, his son, performed the last rites, lighting the funeral pyre amid traditional rituals and chants, as the village stood still in collective grief.
Earlier, Shibu Soren’s mortal remains were brought from his Morhabadi residence in Ranchi to Nemra. His body was kept for public viewing, where a massive crowd of supporters, villagers, political leaders, social activists, and admirers gathered to offer their final “Johar” to the man who led the Jharkhand statehood movement from the front.
A People’s Leader Remembered
The entire region witnessed a rare display of unity in mourning, with people remembering Soren as a visionary, a guide, and the torchbearer of tribal rights. Many referred to him as the soul of Jharkhand, a man who gave voice to the marginalized and laid the foundation of the state’s political awakening.
Leaders across party lines, social and cultural dignitaries, and thousands of grassroots workers joined the procession. The air was heavy with chants of “Johar Guruji”, as Nemra became the symbol of a people’s tribute to their hero.
With the passing of Shibu Soren, Jharkhand has lost a towering figure, whose life was a saga of struggle, sacrifice, and service to his people. His memories, however, will continue to inspire generations.
