Bokaro: BJP State Executive Committee member Kumar Amit has called on the Ministry of Defence to establish a light defence equipment production unit in the non-residential buildings of Bokaro Steel Limited (BSL).
Kumar Amit submitted a memorandum during the visit of Union Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth to Bokaro on Thursday. He pressed for expansion of both the National Cadet Corps (NCC) and the BSL project, while also raising concerns of local veterans.
Referring to the recent Defence Expo in Ranchi, Amit pointed out that the Defence Ministry had sought land for micro and small-scale defence manufacturing in Jharkhand. “Since the state government has shown little interest, the Defence Ministry should coordinate with the Ministry of Steel to use BSL’s vast, unused premises. This would generate large-scale employment for youth, promote economic growth, and make Bokaro known for both steel and defence products,” he said.
He also demanded revival of NCC training programs in schools and colleges including City College, Ranvijay College, Chas College, and KB College. A memorandum was also submitted seeking solutions to problems faced by ex-servicemen in Bokaro.
Minister Sanjay Seth assured that the ministry would look into these proposals and take initiatives accordingly.
